Character NAME: Sonic the Hedgehog
Canon & MEDIUM: Sonic the Hedgehog video game series.
Canon PULL-POINT: After the events of Sonic Colors.
Character AGE: 19
Character ABILITIES: Super-speed, able to break the sound barrier easily. He's also remarkably resilient, though that may be more from determination than actual toughness.
Character HISTORY: Sonic's world is a highly patchwork far-future version of Earth inhabited by both humans and mobians, the strange half-animal hybrids that came to be a few hundred years ago around the time of the discovery of the Chaos Emeralds. No one is really sure where they came from--even the mobians themselves have comflicting theories--but their friendly, boisterous, technicolor natures meshed well with the more quiescent and cerebral humans.

Special abilities amongst mobians are not exactly rare, and Sonic himself was born with ones that was relatively bland--super-dense musculature and a high ratio of fast-twitch fibres, along with a supercharged neural system. He started running almost before he learned to walk, and broke the sound barrier for the first time when he was eight years old. This wasn't the amazing moment of realization of one's true nature that everyone would expect: the poor hoglet wound up in the hospital for a week because he couldn't yet control the shockwave yet. With care and time, however, he learned techniques to lessen the blow of the sonic boom and even use it to his advantage. By the time he was sixteen, he was a competent fighter and an excellent gymnast as well.

The utopic nature of the world has its weaknesses; When a genuine threat arrives, they lack the firepower or even a clue how to deal with it. Such as it was when a human scientist by the name of Dr. Ivo Robotnik, saw an opportunity to gain power by exploiting his genius of nanotech and robotics to take over by the most insidious means; creating robots out of living things. Nanotech robotization. A slow, painful process that rendered the unfortunate victim a mindless war-machine in the end. With an unlimited supply of soldiers, the remaining organics would never stand a chance. The situation seemed hopeless. Sonic, then sixteen, realized that armies couldn't do something, maybe a single hedgehog can. He set out from West Island without even telling his Uncle that morning, and the rest is history. The impertinant little hedgehog found his way up north through ruins and cities to the Scrap Brain factories, dodging traps and robots, all to take down the man himself.

It's been three years since he first set out to do what no one else could. Since then protected the world from falling space stations and angry gods, amassed a group of friends to help him along the way, and has a small personal island in the South Ocean where he can get moving as soon as there's trouble.

(Here's the wiki page if you'd like more information. The games' events are highlights in a long career of bot-kicking. =D)

Character PERSONALITY: Upbeat, honest, optimistic, and snarky, Sonic possesses an ironclad sense of personal justice and values freedom above all else. He just can't sit by if there's someone in trouble--especially if that someone is a pretty girl. He's somewhat competitive, a major show-off, and basically everything you'd expect a teenage male to be no matter what the species.

His high-speed nature extends to his personality in a few ways: He's extremely hyperactive and impatient, prone to jump to conclusions, very disorganized, and hates to be kept waiting. He also hates enclosed spaces. While not technically claustrophobic, he'll always prefer to be outside in the open air, where he can run. It's not unusual to find him out on a run if there's a problem he has to think through: He'd say he thinks better on the move. Which is true, to be fair; he's a master of thinking on-the-spot and making things up as he goes. In fact, the only time he can remember things really going wrong, was when he made a plan beforehand! He puts a little too much stock into this at times, and tends to jump into dangerous situations without fully knowing what's going on ON PURPOSE, knowing that it'll work out somehow. Many a time has he been berated by his friends for taking these leaps of faith, even if the world WAS at stake.

The only thing he actually fears at this point--other than the loss of his friends--is deep water. Water saps his speed and kinetic energy, essentially rendering him powerless, and his unusually dense musculature means he sinks like a ROCK. Add to that a little trauma from that one time in the Labyrinth Zone when he was sixteen, and one can imagine why he doesn't go in the pool much...

Sonic is an extremely personable critter, and it takes a lot to get on his bad side. Even those who are irrevocably evil are met not with anger but with joking trash-talk as he works to take them down piece by piece. Life's too short to be negative, if you ask him, and positivity has power. Even in the most dire of situations, he's still optimistic--actually moreso in that situation, because that's when everyone needs it the most. No one ever figured a way out if they thought it was hopeless.

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Anti-friction sneakers, Mk. V. What look like normal shoes actually carry an astonishing amount of tech; fusion-powered core, carbon-calcium tube superconductor circuitry, and anti-friction field generators all in order keep them from wearing out. They're easily upgradable (for things like the Light Dash, for instance.) and it would be simple to modify them with evolving tech.
Chosen SKILLSET: Sonic is a fighter, through and through. One look at what the Government of the United Earth does to control people, and he'll be willing to fight them to the end. Although his methods a little... dangerous, he'll never ask his teammates to do the same.

First PERSON:

[The first thing heard over the speakers is a cartoonishly-loud gastronomic grumble before Sonic squares the camera on his face.]

Heeeeey, guys! Uh, anyone know a good place where a guy can get somethin' to eat around here? I'm dyin' for a good chili dog right about now, and I haven't seen a stand anywhere on the island!

[His stomach grumbles again.]

Third PERSON:

Sonic loved to run in the early morning. There was just something about the quiet and ghost-town stillness just before dawn that he liked. It gave him a childlike thrill, as though he were somewhere he shouldn't be. The slight chill to the air and the morning fog in Exsilium made it seem like a completely different world in the morning, too. A whole world of rolling hills stretched out just for him, purple-tinted from the twilight of dawn and free from the machinations of the world's inverse war for a few hours every day.

Although... the fog did have its added challenge. However he hasn't hit a tree at two hundred miles per hour since he was thirteen, and had no intention on starting again.

Third PERSON redux:

Ancient ruins tend to look a lot different when they aren't so ancient. No broken stones or decaying supports, the buildings are covered with bright paints and fabric and filled with panicked natives and robots who were all chasing them.

...It's complicated. Suffice it to say that if he didn't take out all these assassination drones then the city would be wiped out, and the Initiative needed them to survive at least as far as the Renaissance; someone else would pick up the charge of protecting them after that. Something about their future technology being needed for something..? Eh, whatever, Sonic didn't bother to listen to the details. As far as he was concerned he didn't need any excuse to beat up vicious robots! That's his favorite pasttime!

He zips up the elevated stone walk and bounds down through the jungle foliage, landing hard on one of the floating drones and covering up the ocular sensor. "HAHA, GUESS WHO?" He then rides it as it flails into two others, leaping away just before the three annihilate each other in a goofy explosion of bent blades, electrical sparks and carbon-fiber shrapnel. Two more are tied up in some vines and thrown off a cliff. The last is bashed against the wall at high velocity with a powerful kinetically-charged kick, and the villagers it was chasing stop a few yards away and stare as their mechanical pursuer wobbles and spins itself to pieces thanks to a broken gyro. Sonic lands nearby and flashes them all a grin.

"Don't worry guys! You're safe now! But uh, if anyone asks... this whole thing never happened." And with that he takes off again, leaving a trail of dust and scattered leaves.

They all stare at the receding blue speck. Finally one of the natives glances to the others and mutters in an ancient dialect that is lost to the world now; but the loose translation is something along the lines of "I've never seen a talking blue cactus before."
